Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you do for anyone who hasn’t come across you before?
I was born and raised in Iran and I moved to the US when I was 20 years old. I studied Fashion design at FIDM in LA, however my passion for fitness led me to change my career path to working towards becoming a fitness trainer. I am absolutely obsessed with being healthy and taking care of my body. Whenever anyone asks me how I achieved my fitness goals, I am always ready to share my experience and offer my advice to everyone. I believe in order to achieve any goal, you must be driven and encouraged by people around you, and therefore I constantly like to encourage others.
We can see you have gone through some weight loss – What motivated you to become healthier?
I have always been an active person, whether it was swimming, aerobics, or sports – I always enjoyed keeping busy. When I started school, I was also working full time and it became difficult for me to spend time working out. I let myself go because I was going through a stressful period in my life and we all know, when we’re stressed out the last thing we want to do is work out. I gained a significant amount of weight and came to realize that I wanted to be healthy and change my lifestyle not only to look better but also to feel more energized and feel stronger. My hubby Ali, was there to support me every step of the way and he actually introduced my to my personal trainer which helped me to begin my transformation. Event though, I had support from my family, no one can make this decision for you, YOU need to be the one to make the change for yourself and be dedicated…and that’s exactly what I did.
How important has your diet been?
Abs are made in the kitchen, therefore a clean diet is really important to me. Not only has my diet helped me to lose the weight, it has made me feel better as a person. My mind is more focused and I have more energy. Dieting does not mean, eating less. You have to know when to eat and what the right foods to eat are. To anyone changing their diet, I recommend you to do your research or consult a nutritionist for better results.
What’s the single most important thing you have learnt from you experience that would help other women who are trying to be healthier?
The single most important thing I have learned from my experience is that this is not an easy process to do. It is a constant uphill battle, but if you believe in yourself, you can accomplish anything. Surround yourself with people who encourage you and believe in you. Set realistic goals and take your time, results don’t happen over night. You have to be patient and instead of focusing on “losing weight”, think of it has changing your lifestyle to be a much healthier individual.
We can see that you incorporate loads of different training methods? (Weights, tyres, boxing etc.) – Any reason? And what’s your favourite?
Exercising should not feel like work. I constantly like to change up my work out regimens so I can have fun with it. It’s also good to challenge your body with different techniques because that is how you obtain better results. My favorite training method is lifting weights because to be honest, I enjoy feeling the burn. When I’m sore, I know that I’m one step closer to achieving my goals, which is to gain muscle and stay fit. My second favorite is kickboxing because that’s where you get a whole body workout.
Why do you like sharing fitness and food pictures/videos on Instagram? Do you do it to inspire and help other people? For fun? Promotion? Get feedback?
A fitness model, Michelle Lewin, initially inspired me. She along with other fitness models I follow, post pictures of the progression of their bodies, the right foods to eat, motivational quotes, and videos of different work out routines. One day, I decided to post a picture of my progress and I received such good feedback from my friends and followers. Since I was so inspired by other women posting on Instagram, I decided to start posting my experience to help and motivate others as well. As I posted more and more, I started receiving comments and messages from people telling me how I have inspired them and to me that was unbelievably rewarding and is the reason why I continue to do it.
Currently where do you go for advice / to connect with other fitness people?
The number one person I look up to for advice who has helped me with my transformation is my personal trainer and nutritionist, Mehdi Ansari (IG: laforeverfitness). His knowledge and techniques are truly what helped me change my lifestyle when I first began training with him. He pushed me, motivated me and made exercising fun for me. It’s important to have an experienced personal trainer who can be there for you, support you and give you the right diet and workout plan that’s catered to your body.
We can see some Arabic in your profile? What’s your ethnic background? Has that had any impact on your health and fitness due to traditional foods, lifestyle challenges?
I post frequently in Farsi. I’m Persian (Iranian) and it is a huge part of my life. My mom is the best Persian caterer (her food is to die for), however Persian food can definitely have a lot of calories. I don’t ever prevent myself from eating Persian food, it’s a part of who I am and my culture. Instead, I still incorporate it into my diet but I have learned how to do it in a healthier way.
How would you feel about Aflete, a social app purely for food, health and fitness?
Aflete is a fresh, quirky, and fun way to gain information about food, health and fitness. I am so excited and I think this is a great, entertaining way for people to learn!
Is there anything you would like to promote, brands etc? And How can people see more of your inspiration?
Currently I’m not working with any brands because I am still working towards my goals. I am extremely passionate about fitness and love inspiring others. My Instagram (ig: neginir) is where I post my experience, my progress, and my workout routines. This is where I want to continue to inspire others and if there’s anyone that would like more personal advice, I would be happy to respond to their emails and do whatever I can to assist them in their transformation (email@example.com)
